Benefits of a Mommy Makeover

A Mommy Makeover offers a comprehensive solution to restore your body after the physical changes of pregnancy and childbirth. This transformative procedure can help you achieve:

  • Enhanced Body Contours: By targeting areas such as the abdomen, breasts, and thighs, a Mommy Makeover can help you regain a firmer, more youthful silhouette.
  • Boosted Confidence: Feeling good about your body can significantly enhance your self-esteem and overall quality of life, allowing you to enjoy motherhood even more.
  • Customized Results: The procedure is tailored to your specific needs, whether that means lifting and restoring breast volume, tightening abdominal muscles, or removing excess skin.
  • One-Time Recovery: Combining multiple procedures into one surgery reduces overall downtime, allowing you to quickly return to your daily life with your new figure.
  • Long-Lasting Effects: With proper care and a healthy lifestyle, the results of a Mommy Makeover can be long-lasting, helping you maintain your post-pregnancy shape for years.

Are You a Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

A Mommy Makeover is ideal for women who want to restore their pre-pregnancy body and boost their confidence. This procedure is particularly effective for addressing common post-childbirth concerns such as sagging breasts, loose abdominal skin, and stubborn fat deposits.

You may be a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover if you:

  • Have experienced significant changes in your breasts and abdomen after pregnancy, such as loss of volume, sagging, or stretch marks.
  • Are bothered by excess skin or separated abdominal muscles that haven't responded to diet and exercise.
  • Have finished breastfeeding and do not plan to have more children, as future pregnancies could affect the results.
  • Are in good overall health, with no significant medical conditions that could complicate surgery or recovery.
  • Are at or near your ideal weight, as a Mommy Makeover is not a weight loss procedure.
  • Have realistic expectations and are looking for an improvement in body contour and appearance.

Candidates should be in good overall health, as certain conditions like uncontrolled diabetes, cardiovascular issues, or bleeding disorders can pose risks. Additionally, quitting smoking before and after the procedure and maintaining a stable weight are crucial for achieving long-lasting results. A consultation with Dr. Said will help determine if a Mommy Makeover is right for you.

Other Procedures

Breast Lift Procedure: Dr. Said places incisions on the breast. Usually a scar around the areola is used, and incisions on the lower breast. In select cases, a vertical incision can be avoided for a more natural, unoperated look. Through the incisions, the breast tissue can be lightened if needed. A breast lift tightens loose breast skin and raises drooping breasts. Breast implants or natural fat may be added once the excess skin is removed to restore volume to deflated breasts. Afterward, the incisions are closed neatly to minimize scarring.

Tummy Tuck Procedure: Dr. Said makes a horizontal incision on the lower abdomen. The tissue is dissected up to the ribs. The navel is freed from the skin so that it can be moved to a natural position on the abdomen later. Abdominal muscle separation is fixed by stitching the muscles together. The skin is pulled downward toward the pubic area so it is nice and taut. Excess skin is removed. A small incision is created for the belly button. The belly button is passed through the incision and sutured in place. The lower abdominal incision is closed in layers. The surgery takes approximately three to five hours. This describes a full tummy tuck with muscle repair. Techniques vary based on your individual tummy tuck plan. For example, a mini tummy tuck does not address the muscles or upper abdomen. Navel repositioning is also generally not necessary.

Liposuction Procedure: Dr. Said makes a small incision (1/4”). A local anesthetic is administered to stiffen the fat tissue and reduce bleeding. A cannula (thin, hollow tube) is inserted to loosen the fat. The fat cells are removed with machine-assisted suction. Liposuction takes between one to three hours. The length of time depends on the amount of fat to be removed. The incision is closed. The scar is hardly visible once healed.

What to Expect During Mommy Makeover Recovery

The recovery time depends on the extent of your surgery. You may be asked to take two to six weeks off of work. Driving may be resumed when you feel confident that you have a full range of motion. Do not drive while taking prescription pain medications that cause drowsiness.

Please avoid heavy lifting and exercise for at least six to eight weeks. It is best to avoid intensive workout programs and core exercise in the first three months of recovery. Short walks are recommended, starting on the same day as surgery. Most discomfort subsides in the first three days. Pain medication is prescribed for a more comfortable recovery.

Antibiotics are also prescribed to lower the risk of infection. Swelling after cosmetic surgery is normal. Breast work may require wearing a special supportive bra for a few weeks. You may be asked to wear compression garments to reduce swelling and assist with skin retraction. Bruising may occasionally occur. This takes approximately two weeks to fade.

Mommy Makeover FAQs

In most cases, mommy makeover procedures include some combination of breast enhancement such as breast augmentation or breast lift, liposuction procedure, tummy tuck with repair of the abdominal muscles, or mini tummy tuck. In some cases, as part of the treatment plan but likely in a separate procedure, facial plastic surgery could also be included.

Since a mommy makeover is a set of different cosmetic procedures, the length of results will vary by procedure. Breast augmentation with implants typically lasts about ten years, while the fat cells removed during liposuction and tummy tuck are removed permanently. A pregnancy after mommy makeover will essentially reverse the results of a tummy tuck.

It's important to remember that the procedures involved in a mommy makeover are body contouring and sculpting methods, not weight loss techniques. Most women drop two to three dress sizes, but less than five pounds of actual tissue removal is typical. And this may be offset by the weight of breast implants.

It is recommended to be at or close to your goal weight prior to undergoing a mommy makeover. Body contouring involves the removal of excess skin and fine-tuning stubborn pockets of fat, so extreme changes in weight—more than about 10 to 15 pounds post-surgery—can greatly affect your final results.
